Welcome to our Year 1/2 class page!
In Year 1/2, we aim to create a happy, nurturing and purposeful classroom where every child feels valued, supported and ready to learn. We work closely with parents and carers because we know that strong partnerships between home and school help children to make the best possible progress.
Community and collaboration are important parts of our classroom. Children are encouraged to work together, listen to one another, share ideas and celebrate each other's achievements. We also promote kindness, respect and inclusivity so that every child feels that they belong and can contribute positively to our class.
We want children to develop confidence and aspiration from an early age, learning to persevere when something is challenging and to take pride in their achievements.
Reading
Reading is central to everything we do at Weston Point Primary Academy. In Year 1/2, we place a strong emphasis on developing confident, fluent and enthusiastic readers.
Children should bring their reading book and reading record into school every day so that we can make the most of opportunities to read with them in school. We also encourage children to read regularly at home and for parents and carers to share books, stories and conversations about reading whenever possible.
Our aim is not only to teach children how to read, but to help them develop a genuine love of books and reading.
PE
Our PE day is Wednesday.
Children should come to school with the appropriate PE kit and be ready to take part fully in their lesson. PE is an important part of our curriculum and helps children develop physical skills alongside teamwork, perseverance and confidence.
