Music

At Weston Point Primary Academy, we believe that every child should see themselves as capable of making, creating and enjoying music. Our ambition is to develop confident and enthusiastic musicians who have opportunities to listen, sing, perform, compose and respond to a wide variety of music. Music provides pupils with opportunities for creativity and self-expression while also developing confidence, concentration, teamwork and perseverance.

We use Kapow Primary Music to provide a progressive and carefully sequenced curriculum. Pupils develop their understanding through listening and evaluating, creating sound, performing, improvising, composing and developing their understanding of musical notation. Important musical knowledge and vocabulary, including concepts such as rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics and structure, are introduced progressively and revisited in increasingly sophisticated contexts. Pupils also encounter music from different times, traditions and cultures, helping to broaden their musical experiences.

At Weston Point, practical participation is at the heart of Music. We want children to experience the enjoyment of making music together and to develop the confidence to perform and share their ideas. Learning is designed to be accessible to all pupils regardless of previous musical experience, while providing appropriate challenge as skills develop. Through our commitment to Strive for Excellence, we aim for pupils to leave Weston Point with a strong appreciation of music, the confidence to participate in musical activities and a foundation from which further musical interests and talents can grow.
