Computing

At Weston Point Primary Academy, our ambition is for pupils to become confident, capable and responsible users and creators of technology. Computing is an essential part of modern life and our curriculum goes beyond teaching children how to use devices. We want pupils to understand how technology works, develop computational thinking and use digital tools creatively while recognising the responsibilities that come with living and learning in an increasingly digital world.

We use Kapow Primary Computing to provide a progressive curriculum covering the key areas of computer science, information technology and digital literacy. Children learn to understand and create algorithms, develop programming skills, work with data and use a range of technology to create digital content. Knowledge and skills are carefully sequenced and revisited so that pupils become increasingly independent and can apply previous learning to more complex problems.

Online safety and digital responsibility are fundamental to our Computing curriculum. Pupils learn how to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly, how to protect personal information and how to recognise and respond to risks they may encounter online. As technology continues to develop, including the increasing use of artificial intelligence, we want pupils to become thoughtful and critical digital citizens who understand that not everything they encounter online is reliable or appropriate. Our aim is for every pupil to leave Weston Point with the knowledge, confidence and judgement necessary to use technology positively and safely at secondary school and beyond.
