Visit to Liverpool Philharmonic

Pupils at Weston Point Primary Academy took full advantage of the opportunity to immerse themselves in international music culture at the home of the UK’s oldest continuing professional symphony orchestra.

Every child in Key Stage Two worked with specialist music teachers who have delivered the Philharmonic’s Scheme of Work, ‘The World in One City: A Musical Journey.’ This culminated with the children joining in with a specially commissioned song with schools across the region.

The trip marked the beginning of a hugely exciting partnership between Weston Point and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, for the utmost benefit of its children as part of the school’s commitment to provide cultural experiences and a global awareness.

Meanwhile, the trip was just one of many extra-curricular activities that pupils at Weston Point have benefitted from recently in the school’s rich and varied provision.

Just this week alone, pupils across the school have had opportunities to attend Judo, Drama, Computer Coding Club and Dodgeball sessions, and the school is proud to offer dance lessons led by the prestigious Royal Ballet of London, as part of its quality provision.

Earlier this week, the school’s girls’ football team competed in a tournament at Liverpool Football Club’s academy complex in Kirkby, while other pupils have taken part in a swimming gala competing against other schools across Halton.

Ms Thompson said:

"Our KS2 children recently took part in an unforgettable cultural, musical experience at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, marking the culmination of our collaboration with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

"Through the scheme of work The World in One City, the children explored global cultures and musical traditions, leading up to a powerful shared performance with schools from across the region.

"Weston Point Primary Academy prides itself on providing every child with a personal development offer that goes above and beyond, and this experience was a perfect example of how we strive to enrich our pupils’ learning beyond the classroom."

Mr Evans commented:

"Our trip to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra was a valuable and enriching experience for our children and staff alike. It sparked an enthusiastic understanding of classical music and supported children's personal and social development. Credit must go to the Philharmonic staff for arranging such a well organised and unforgettable experience for our children."

Weston Point’s trip to the Philharmonic was reported on in the Runcorn & Widnes Weekly World.
