Science

At Weston Point Primary Academy, our ambition is for every child to develop a genuine curiosity about the world around them and the confidence to think and work scientifically. Through our Science curriculum, pupils develop a secure body of scientific knowledge alongside the skills needed to ask questions, investigate, observe, identify patterns, gather evidence and draw conclusions. We want children to understand that science is not simply a collection of facts, but a way of thinking, questioning and making sense of the world.

We use Kapow Primary to support the delivery of our Science curriculum. The scheme provides a carefully sequenced journey from the Early Years through to Year 6, enabling pupils to revisit important concepts and build increasingly sophisticated knowledge and understanding. Scientific vocabulary is explicitly taught and revisited, while practical investigation and working scientifically are woven throughout learning. The structured progression within Kapow helps us ensure that pupils build upon what they already know rather than encountering topics as isolated units.

At Weston Point, we adapt learning to meet the needs of our pupils while maintaining high expectations for everyone. Practical experiences, discussion, modelling and carefully selected scaffolds allow all pupils, including those with SEND, to participate successfully in Science. In keeping with our commitment to Strive for Excellence, we want pupils to leave Weston Point as curious, knowledgeable and confident young scientists who are well prepared for the scientific learning they will encounter at secondary school and who recognise the importance of science in everyday life.
