Religious Education

At Weston Point Primary Academy, Religious Education provides pupils with opportunities to explore some of life's most important questions while developing knowledge and understanding of religion and worldviews. Our ambition is for children to become thoughtful, respectful and informed individuals who can engage confidently with people whose beliefs and experiences may be similar to or different from their own.

We use Kapow Primary Religion and Worldviews to support the delivery of a broad and progressive RE curriculum. Pupils encounter a range of religious and non-religious worldviews and progressively develop their understanding of beliefs, practices, traditions and ways in which people make meaning in their lives. Lessons encourage pupils to ask meaningful questions, examine different perspectives, use subject-specific vocabulary and explain their own thinking with increasing clarity.

At Weston Point, RE makes an important contribution to our values of Respect, Kindness and Inclusivity. Our curriculum does not seek to promote a particular belief; instead, it provides pupils with the knowledge and understanding necessary to engage respectfully with the diverse society in which they live. We want children to be curious rather than judgemental, able to listen carefully to others and confident enough to discuss complex questions sensitively. By the time pupils leave Weston Point, they should have a secure foundation of knowledge alongside a strong respect for the beliefs, cultures and experiences of others.
